The iPhone and iPod Touches house a decent processor which has been under-clocked to favour battery life over performance. The processors on the devices are therefore not fully exploited, but by over-clocking it is very much possible to squeeze more out of those circuit boards, but only on a jailbroken device.

The processor of the iPhone 2G, 3G is infact 600MHz, but Apple has underclocked it to 412 MHz, with the iPhone 3GS instead of 833 MHz, it is operated at 600Mhz but its easy to run them at their factory clocks. The newer iDevices are even faster.

Step One. Download iFile. It's a paid app, so add http://ihacksrepo.com to your sources to get it for free.

Step Two. Download MobileTerminal from the Xsellize repo. http://cydia.xsellize.com

Step Three. Open MobileTerminal. Type

su
alpine
cd /
cd System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle/
chmod 755 com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefault.plist

Press enter after each one. Capital letters must be used where I used them.

Step Four. In iFile, navigate to System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle/

Step Five. Rename file “com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist” to “SystemPowerProfileDefaultbak.plist” or something that the device doesn’t recognize.

Step Six. Reboot, and your iPhone/iPod Touch will run on the native Processor clocks.

Warning: Increasing the clock speed would degrade the CPU’s lifespan. However, since the device is not designed to handle the heat generated at higher clocks, we recommend you terminate apps if device appears to overheat. Keep a close eye on the temperature to avoid issues.

You don't lose anything?

Unless you're talking about messing up your CPU, in which case, i agree. I'll probably do this on an old iPhone i have, not my main device.

Agreed. Make sure it's actually worth it .

I remember my friend overclocked his iPod touch, and he was able to run Windows 95 on it. It burned his leg because he had it in his pocket, and it was extremely overclocked and loading Windows lol.

It's amazing what you can do with stuff these days... Just makes me wonder what's next.

Gotta watch the temperature, Insane! Got Linux on mine, on a dualboot.

badboy, i don't recommend it for your main device. Just posting to give people the info.
