Here are some desktop programs that I love, and they don't eat up much ram and processor usage (depending on your machine)
The first program that I will introduce is Glass2k, this little thing allows you to have a transparent taskbar along with transparent windows. You can set the level of transparency by adjusting the settings in the program itself by turning on the "Transparency Popup"

The second program that I will introduce is zMatrix. What this thing does is it puts the matrix code scrolling down your screen, it's really cool. You can change the color, speed, strings, and processor usage.

Last but not least is Rainmeter. It is the clock looking thing, taskbar at the top of the screen, and sidebar on the right.

I have Rainmeter already, but I only use it for the System specs and for some folder links to un-clutter my desktop. (With all my coding and school related projects, I have to organize everything once every 2 weeks-ish, and that's because I've filled all my desktop space... lol.)
zMatrix looks cool! I'm getting it to try out now.
will these work on windows 7 64bit?

ok, i tried the matrix one and that is currently working on my PC. so windows 7 64bit clear for installment
windows 7 does this all? D: well some of it
the matrix one doesnt lag you or it does? cuz if it does im not getting
it doesn't lag for me. the only thing lagging is my internet atm. can't even go on rs without being disconnected
Nice to know the desktop works in layers.
Wallpaper > icons > the matrix thing >gadgets
Noticed that it overlays the icons which kinda got annoying and lead to me uninstalling it
It depends on the machine. If it's from 2003+ it shouldn't lag that much or at all. You can change the priority of it too if you put it on the lowest you should be good.
Btw 1UP The desktop is in layers I found out cause of the zMatrix thing too =P I just don't move my icons around.
