Xbox - Open Tray Error
Im posting this to let anyone who owns an xbox be aware that this is a problem that can happen to ANYONE. It can happen to ANY xbox, even slims. Its caused by the laser misaligning itself gradually over time, meaning that it won't read your disc correctly giving you the error. Im not sure if its just me, but the only symptom i got was that it started giving me the "Open Tray" message sometimes when i had a disc in and i would just open and close the disc tray and it would work fine, and it eventually got probable that it would read up until it wouldn't read anything.
So how would i fix it if i did have said error?
Well since the laser inside is misaligned, it has to be either realigned (which isn't very smart considering many articles say that doing this yourself is often unsuccessful) or have the entire disc drive replaced. There are 3 different drives: Hitachi, Samsung, and BENQ. The BENQ is the most common and most efficient out of the 3, but it is also the hardest to remove due to the solder holding it to the xbox itself. Theres plenty of videos on the internet of how to disassemble an xbox to get to the DVD Drive if your willing to open it up. Replacing the Drive can cost you somewhere around $120 unfortunately.
There is also a temporary solution to this problem (well it only worked like 2-3 times for me so far). Open the tray, put the disc in, close it, and tap the top of your xbox semi-hard to where it says 'reading' longer than it should. I'd say maybe this works 20% of the time, but its better than not playing anything at all.

And the way its making that sound is you should probably just buy a hard drive with a ton of space, and buy the full game online and get it installed to the hard drive.

Im getting it fixed for free, but i have considered that.
The place where my mom works ships for free, and she has a friend who can fix it for free since its what he does. But she keeps procrastinating it for some reason.

Could to take the laser outta a DVD/CD Rom drive in a computer? Or does it have to be a specific one.

It has to be VERY specific, as it is made just for the xbox.
If you don't know what is wrong with it, then you should research it and see how you can combat those problems.
