    Default FL studio vs. Ableton

Which do you guys think is better, FL studio, or Ableton? Which is cheaper in price? Where would you guys reccomend getting it at? Call me weird but I want to buy one of these, not using a crack or whatever. Any feedback would be nice, I've heard good about both programs, or is there a program even better then these?

    -Thanks ^^

    Do you have a budget?

You could try LMMS, it's free and looks somewhat like FL Studio.

According to reviews and comparisons if you don't need loads of VSTs then LMMS is probably a better choice, especially as its free.

I personally use FL Studio, Ableton Live 8, and Reason 5.

FL Studio is a very demanding program, it requires a ton of power for you to use its full potential, such as ram, processor speed, and a decent sound card.

Ableton is an incredible piece of software, you can do live dj shows and stuff with it, you can crazy shit, I also know it's really difficult to use if you don't know what you're doing lol.

Reason 5 is really good too however I haven't used it for more than an hour xD I just know it's really good because my friend uses it all the damn time, and he makes some crazy shit.

Also, if you're wanting to really get into music production get a controller, they really come in handy!

    A controller? O.o

My laptop sucks ass. Not going to lie. My family has never owned a good computer. However, we do have one in our closet that I was thinking about completely restarting, just need to figure out what I need to get it the necessities again.

I've never used one of these, I just thought id try getting into it, music has always been something I've enjoyed, since the fifth grade when I started playing.

    My budget:
Well... I dunno. I believe my parents will help me if its too much, but I have like a hundred in the bank, 30 on hand, and 60 sitting in a little change jar. Money also won't be an issue seeing as my birthday is in April and all I usually get is money, no one knows what to buy me (family-wise.)

So yeah. If you want my lappys specs that I'm currently using ill get it later. Its not impressive, just a notebook we got two years-ish back.

Edit: what the fuck is a vst... or vts... or whatever.

VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology, and they are basically software plug ins.

By controller, he means a midi controller.

If budget is going to be a problem, start out with LMMS first, then move up to the more advanced paid ones. Just to get a hang of what you're doing before you put out that kind of money, you know?

Ya I know, however is LMSS (or whatever) demanding in cpu, ram, and other shit like that? If so, I have a feeling I need a new computer, which I can't afford. /:
