    Default Dynamic to static IP?

One of my irl friends have set up a minecraft server, however I'm not sure if that has anything to do with anything. He said his IP is dynamic, not staying the same for even five minutes. Well, obviously, I told him I'd ask here. Any ideas as to how he can make it static?

having a dynamic IP is costly. and is usually reserved for only businesses. a more feasible workaround would be to have the server running cron job every five minutes that displays the ip address of the server on a static page (via DNS) that way theres a dedicated DNS address for the link that people can find with the ip address constantly updated.

also check into the LEASE options in the router. an IP thats dynamic for 5 minutes is highly unusual as a typical lease lasts a week or so. so he may be able to set the lease length of the ip address somehow.
