    Default [TUT][PC] Mega Thread - How to use textures pack in N64 emulators

    Mega Tutorial "How to use a re-texture pack in N64 emulators"

    by Dark Hollow

    Let's check if you can run it first:

    ◊ Intel Pentium III 600 Mhz AMD Athlon 800Mhz or better
    ◊ RAM: 128MB or more
    ◊ GPU 16 MB (recommended 64MB or more and 3D GPU of 8MB) (actual GPU have all these)
    ◊ DirectX 9.0c or better

    Ok! After checking that, let's begin this Tutorial.
    I will teach you:
    - How to install plugins
    - How to Install Textures packs
    - Best settings to run textures packs in roms

    But before that, I will link some resources, so if you don't have one or any of these things, you can download them

    {--Emulators--}

    First of all, you need a N64 emulator.
    Here I put some links of the most know emulators:

    -1964 emulator v 1.2 unofficial
    -1964 emulator V 0.9.9 stable version
    -Project 64 V 1.7 leaked by someone (you can only get it donating the official forum)
    -Project 64 V 1.6 (public one)
    **These emulators are for Windows OS.

    Just install any emulator of your chooise, I usually use 1964 v 0.9.9

    {--Roms--}

    Now you need the room, in this example I'm going to post Zelda games (my favorites games) for the texture packs.
    Some links below if you don't have them:

    Majoras Mask Games
    -Majoras Mask Gamecube Collectors Edition v1.2 Ver. E
    -Majoras Mask Gamecube Collectors Edition Ver. U
    -Majoras Mask Original ver. U

    Ocarina of Time Games
    -Ocarina of Time Gamecube Edition Ver. E
    -Ocarina of Time Gamecube Edition Ver. U
    -Ocarina of Time Original ver. U

    * E = European
    * U = English
    * GC versions are multi language

    {--Plugins--}

    Now the plugins for video, without them you won't be able to play with textures pack.
    -1964 Video Plugin REV 95
    -Glide64 Plugin Final Release

    Some Sound Plugins (If you don't like default ones)
    -Azimer's Audio

    Pad Plugins (Default ones are good)
    -For keyboards (optional if you use keyboard only)
    -N-Rage Input Plugin (Keyboards and pads)

    In order to compile the video plugins, you must install this first.
    -Visual C++ Redistributable Package C++

    {--Textures Pack--}

    Now the Textures pack for these games.
    There are a lot of them, I'm going to post the most popular among people for both games.

    *Majoras Mask Textures Packs*

    -Bluedart's, mdta and Djipi Hi-res pack

    -Part 1
    -Part 2
    -Part 3

    -Djipi Cell Shading Pack (Like Wind Waker) *Note: This one has other way to install the textures. More Info below in "How to install textures pack".

    -Majoras Mask Djipi Cellshading Pack

    *Ocarina Of Time Textures Packs*

    -Djipi Cell Shading Pack*Note: This one has other way to install the textures. More Info below in "How to install textures pack".

    -Ocarina of Time Textures Pack

    -Zelda Ocarina of time Community Retexture V6 (HD textures)

    -Part 1
    -Part 2
    -Part 3

    ~~How to Install Plugins~~

    Now that we have all the necesary, after you installed your emulator of choice, you must set the plugins.

    -Open the folder where you installed the emulator, I'll use the most common paths:

    **Using 1964 emulator ver 0.9.9

    C:/Program files/1964/099/plugin

    Here you must paste the video plugin. There's the instuctions for both:

    --For Glide64:

    -] Paste all the content of the Plugin folder of the Glide64_final.zip file in this path: C:/program files/1964/099/plugin
    -] Paste the glide3x.dll that's inside the Wrapper folder of the Glide64_final.zip file in this path: C:/program files/1964/099

    --For 1964 Plugin

    -] Paste all the files of the 1964Video (REV 95( folder to this path: C:/program files/1964/099/plugin (Just replace any file of the current folder).

    **Using Project64 1.7

    C:/Program files/Project64 1.7/Plugin/GFX

    Here you must paste the video plugin. There's the instuctions for both:

    --For Glide64

    -] Paste all the content of the Plugin folder of the Glide64_final.zip file in this path: C:/Program files/Project64 1.7/Plugin/GFX
    -] Paste the glide3x.dll that's inside the Wrapper folder of the Glide64_final.zip file in this path: C:/Program files/Project64 1.7

    --For 1964 Plugin

    -] Paste all the files of the 1964Video (REV 95( folder to this path: C:/Program files/Project64 1.7/Plugin/GFX

    There are some captures if you're lost with the paths:
    **Folders names are in spanish due to my Windows language.

    ~~How to Install Texture Packs~~

    Now that the plugins are installed and you downloaded any textures pack, let's start to install it.
    Open the folder of the emulator you installed:

    **Using 1964 Emulator

    -] Go to this path C:/program files/1964/099/plugin and make a new folder named hires_texture
    -] Paste the folder that has the name of the game you want. example: bluedarts/ZELDA MAJORA'S MASK. You must paste the folder ZELDA MAJORA'S MASK, so it will be C:/program files/1964/099/plugin/hires_texture/ZELDA MAJORA'S MASK

    **Using Project64 1.7 Emulator

    -] Go to this path C:/program files/Project64 1.7/Plugin/GFX and make a new folder named hires_texture
    -] Paste the folder that has the name of the game you want. example: bluedarts/ZELDA MAJORA'S MASK. You must paste the folder ZELDA MAJORA'S MASK, so it will be C:/program files/Project64 1.7/Plugin/GFX/hires_texture/ZELDA MAJORA'S MASK

    There are some captures if you're lost with the paths:
    **Folders names are in spanish due to my Windows language.

    How to Install Djipis textures packs

    Because he decided to just give a .DAT file to avoid theft of their work, we need to install it in a different way.
    These packs with "*note:" after the title only works with Glide64 video plugin.

    -] You must go to this path: C:/program files/1964/099/plugin or C:/program files/Project64 1.7/Plugin/GFX and create a new folder named cache
    -] Extract any pack and just paste the 2 .DAT files of the folder, so you must paste just the files, not the folder in cache folder.

    In case you're lost with paths, here are some screenshots:

    ~~Best settings to run textures packs in roms~~

    If you're already here, you're almost done to enjoy these packs. This step is not just for best settings, is required to be able to run the packs.
    I'm going to use 1964 Emulator to explain this but is the same in Project64.

    VERY IMPORTANT: If you have Win7 OS, you must run the emulator in "run as admin" or you will have error while loading textures (Project64 and 1964) .

    -] Open the emulator
    -] Go to "Plugins" - "Change Plugins". Here you can choose wich plugins will you like to use. In the bar with a screen image, choose "Glide64 Napalm WX"

    -] Now go again to "Plugins" - "Video Settings". You can choose your favorite size, I'm in a Laptop so doesn't has a great res. You must check the "Show advance emulation options" and "Show texture enhancement options" that are below. After that click "OK".

    -] Enter again to "Plugins" - "Video Settings" and go to "Emulation Settings" and check everything like the image below.

    -] Now go to "Texture enhancement" and check everything like the image below

    With that you're now ready to play these games with textures packs
    Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading this

    Love the guide. Helped me a lot. I setup Majora's Mask with Project64 1.6 and the Bluedart's, mdta and Djipi Hi-res pack. Most of it looks amazing. The only issue is, the start menu isn't loading the hi res textures. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?
