Join a match with a party. That always worked for me to not be host.

To check to see if you're host of a match, view the scores in-game and look at the ping bars. If your bars stay full all game, then you're host.

A way to fix this is to take a few whacks at the console with a ball-peen hammer, you'll never be host again.

just go into a match and turn your mic on and off. if it turns off and on faster than normal than you are the host.
