Default How to connect a generic bluetooth keyboard with no pair code to Android OS

How to connect a bluetooth keyboard to any android device. Ok, well any is misleading...device must be rooted.

First, connect via normal means, if possible. Android 4.x has native support for bt kb, while previous versions may not. In my case I did not, and pairing was unsuccessful after many attempts. There may be apps that can connect the bt kb for you but I don't have all day to test app after shitty app. Here's. What I did and it can be confirmed working as I'm typing this on my bt kb now.

I cheaped out and bought a bluetooth keyboard off of amazon. It was $6 with free shipping so I figured wtf. Well, wtf is right. The keyboard is a generic chinese-made keyboard with no model number and very little support documentation. In fact I had to reinstall an old dvd burner to read the mini cd with instructions....pointless.

So if you're reading this you are probably a lil frustrated so sit back and relax. Remember you need a ROOTED phone for this. Make sure bt kb is off.

    1. Uninstall any bluetooth keyboard apps you have installed

    2. Unpair/disconnect/remove the keyboard from the bluetooth devices settings. [SETTINGS>WIRELESS NETWORKS>BLUETOOTH SETTINGS then longpress device for options]

    3. Open a terminal. If you don't have one download from market/play. Don't worry its nothing complicated. "Android terminal emulator" or anything similar will work.

    4. Type in terminal: su
4.5 prompt will change from $ to #

    5. Turn on bt keyboard and make it discoverable.

    6. Type in terminal: hcitool scan
6.5 terminal will pause while searching, if found, your mac address for the bt kb will display similar to the following: 00:11:55:66:99:00 device name

    7. Type in terminal: hidd --connect yourmacaddress [example: hidd --connect 00:11:55:67:89:a0 ]

    8. The device will prompt you to enter a pin at this point. Press 1234 on your phone and press ok

    9. ON BT KEYBOARD Press 1234 then hit ENTER.

    10. The devices are now paired and connected, and the system will use the device as a keyboard.

    Good luck.
