John Carmack Insists New Consoles Will Run Games at 30fps
If you think that once the PS4 and Xbox 720 comes around that all console games will be at 60 frames-per-second (fps), think again. John Carmack, founder of id Software and developer of notable games such as DOOM, Wolfenstein, Quake and Rage can "pretty much guarantee" that a lot of next-gen games will still target 30fps.
This was said by Carmack over on Twitter, where he answered a fan's concern that with the next-gen rumored to be powerful, does he think a lot of games will still be at 30 fps.
Mind you, Carmack is one of the visionaries when it comes to gaming development, so I gather that when he says something like this, there is some truth to it. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if he's saying this since he has already seen the development kits for the next-gen platforms.

Of course the consoles are going to run at 30, the Xbox 720 is going to have the equivalent of a 5770, an already outdated graphics card. Sony and Microsoft aren't going to be willing to shell out the extra dough for a more powerful console when the average consumer doesn't want to spend the extra money, even if it's worth it. Consoles aren't meant to match PC's, that's not possible if you want to keep them at a manageable price.
