Mozilla Announces Two Developer FireFox OS Handsets Called Keon And Peak
Today the folks behind FireFox OS, Mozilla, have announced a partnership with a Spanish startup called Geeksphone that will be manufacturing two FireFox OS developer devices called Keon and Peak.
According to The Verge the company is making more noise about the Keon model, which is a “very basic device more akin to a featurephone than a fully-fledged smartphone.” The specs for the Koen model include a single core 1GHz Snapdragon S1 processor, a 480 x 320 HVGA touchscreen, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a 3-megapixel camera and Wi-Fi/3G connectivity.
As for the Peak, it will feature slightly improved hardware including a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) display and an 8-megapixel camera. As for the RAM and storage, it will be the same as the Keon.
The Peak is on the left and the Keon on the right.
Mozilla has yet to mention any news regarding a release date or cost just yet, but Geeksphone says it’ll arrive with a price tag “you could never have imagined,” indicating that it will definitely be priced competitively.
It is important to keep in mind that Mozilla is not looking to target the high-end smartphone market, rather attract those looking for an entry-level device. While in North America such a device may not fare too well, in other international countries they handset might actually manage to attract some attention.
