Default Report claims WhatsApp Messenger violates privacy laws.

WhatsApp is a very popular messenger client that works on multiple platforms, whether your preference be iOS or Android or Blackberry. The app allows you to send and receive media files, and group message. The messenger is estimated to have upwards of 300 million users.

It was recently decided by international law that the app violates users' privacy rights due to the way it deals with Address Book information.

    Reuters (via MacRumors) reports:

WhatsApp, one of the most popular apps in the world, contravenes international privacy laws because it forces users to provide access to their entire address book, Canadian and Dutch data protection authorities said

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) and the Dutch Data Protection Authority, in a joint report released on Monday, said the app violated privacy laws because users have to provide access to all phone numbers in their address book, including both users and non-users of the app.
In iOS 6, Apple started requiring developers to obtain permission from users before apps can access data. This is a great idea on paper, but the problem is, you can't pick and choose which criteria the app accesses. In this instance, you can't pick and choose which contacts the app can or cannot access.

This lack of choice contravenes (Canadian and Dutch) privacy law. Both users and non-users should have control over their personal data and users must be able to freely decide what contact details they wish to share with WhatsApp, said Jacob Kohnstamm, chairman of the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
The creators have agreed to change the app to allow users to select individual contacts for access, and authorities will continue to monitor the app to ensure that privacy is handled appropriately.

In regards to the what data can be accessed, Blackberry allows you to choose what the application has access to in your security modules.

    - Edit: So I'm not sure why this app would violate terms on that OS.
