New PS3 Firmware Live
If you’ve recently fired up your PS3, then you should have been prompted to update the system. It looks as if Sony has released a new firmware update, version 4.40, which is mandatory.
What’s a bit strange is how Sony hasn’t put much attention to this new update, as they have not posted any details about it on their official site. On their Japanese website, however, they’ve outlined a couple small details.
Sony Firmware adds support to RC-S380 [Sony NFC reader]
>System stability has been improved via packages
>Blu Ray seems to be pushing for a new update [Judging from files names]
*Update* Its a firmware for the new drive models that an update for the 0xA
>PlayStation Store menu transition/Loading time has improved
OFW can be upgraded (meaning that security is not the new update)
>No syscon updates
>No key changes
>No Passphrase change
It doesn’t seem to be such a major update. Maybe it was done to smoothen things out and possibly patch some minor, or potentially major, exploits. On the same spectrum, it’s a good thing that Sony is being cautious. God forbid another massive PSN outage.
