Default Laptop not reading hard drive

So I recently got a laptop and when I turn it on, it says something about not finding a hard drive.

I checked if there was a hard drive and it was there. Is there anything I can do to fix it or do I just have to buy a new hard drive ?

I can't get it to boot up any other way as well.

Okay so now it reads the 500gb hd, but it still won't boot up.

    Managed to get a screenshot:

See what I would do is go to the main screen by repeatedly clicking F8 and do a Hard drive clean/Troubleshoot that reads if anything is wrong with the hard drive. Otherwise your hard drive is shot

    or else:

    Trouble shooting

All I see is Safe mode stuff, Boot logging, Low-resolution video, Last know good configuration, Directory services restore mode, Debugging mode, Disabling stuff and starting windows normally.

Not really good with computer stuff

Is the PC used? If its new of course take it back... if not then like the previous posters your hd might be bad. Try in safe boot, last known config, and even restore mode to see if that does anything. If you have any data you want saved on it I would suggest just to take it in or take it to a friend who can hook the drive up to a pc and check your drive and retrieve your data just in case. If you don't have anything worth saving try reinstalling windows or whatever you have...TPB is your friend. (The Pirate Bay ..if you were wondering for all your OS's and data retrieval)

Okay, now it reads my 500gb hard drive, but the thing is when I start it up, it doesn't do anything but stay on a black screen.

And is it normal to be able to turn off a laptop by just pressing the power button once ?

On a clean install, usually the windows update will find all of the drivers for you

Now it does that little bar loading thing and then it shows a blue screen with some white text I can barely read because it just flashes and reboots or some shit right away.
