Default 9 things you’ll be taking for granted on PS4 – the tech you’ll barely notice this tim

    1. Huge online battles: Each PlanetSide 2 map supports 2,000 players at once. This results in genuinely awe-inspiring online battles that dwarf the scale of even the mighty Battlefield 3. Tanks, infantry, and aircraft fight to control bases on an ever-changing map, and seeing thousands of players duking it out is a sight to behold. Best of all, it’s totally free to play. Compared to the 30-60 player counts previously seen on a console, minds are going to be blown when they see a few hundred enemy players cresting over the hill.

    2. Complex physics: PlayStation 4 is able to render thousands of tiny objects at once in real-time, thanks to its powerful CPU. This allows for incredible destruction physics – Second Son throws out the kind of collapsing buildings that Battlefield brags about without so much as a shrug. Knack, on the other hand, is formed of a myriad of tiny bits that can be shed or allow him to form into a skyscraper-sized giant.

    3. Social connectivity: Driveclub, from the creators of MotorStorm is all about connectivity. It’s so connected, in fact, that you’ll be able to manage your car own club – think an MMO guild – from your phone or tablet when you aren’t playing. The developers say they want to create an online universe where people who are passionate about cars and racing can meet up. This level of connectivity is build in to the PS4′s circuits with you and your friends gaming lives woven together through the new menus and more.

    4. Massive scale: While previous Elder Scrolls games have focused on a single region – Morrowind, Cyrodiil, Skyrim, and so on – this massively multiplayer game features the entire continent of Tamriel. Think about how big Skyrim was on it’s own, and Oblivion before it, and try to get your head around them being a just province rather than the entire map. Not only will you be battling monsters and plundering dungeons, but you can fish, cook, craft, and you’ll be doing it alongside thousands of other players.

    5. Ultra realistic lighting: Kojima Productions are so proud of the lighting in their new Fox Engine that they did an entire in-depth talk about it at E3. They’ve painstakingly recreated the way light behaves in real life, and the results speak for themselves in the first footage of Metal Gear 5. Having that level of detail in a huge open world is only possible on a machine as powerful as PS4 and we’re heading to a point where photorealistic could easily be achievable.

    6. Intelligent AI: Guerrilla are keen to stress that Killzone: Shadow Fall isn’t just a pretty showcase for PS4’s visual prowess. They say that the Helghast, returning as the bad guys, will have more intelligent AI that makes them formidable opponents, rather than just grunts waiting to soak up your space-bullets. It’s commonsense really – if graphics get better, but enemies don’t get smarter, it’s not really ‘next-gen’. Previous Killzones had some satisfyingly engaging enemies so it’ll be interesting to see what the future brings.

    7. Seamless multiplayer: As you play The Division, set in New York City in the midst of an apocalyptic viral outbreak, you can team up with other players, or – and this is more likely knowing the internet – get shot by them. It mixes player-versus-player and player-versus-enemy combat, inspired by MMOs, in a tactical shooter. Players can even control spotter drones with their iPad. Think of it like Borderlands 2 only with several co-op teams all playing in your game at once.

    8. Mega motion capture: Activision are taking motion capture to the next level in their Call of Duty spin-off. Not only are the animations smoother than ever, but they’re capturing dogs. They’ve managed to figure out a way to stick those little reflector balls on a dog, and the result is one of the most realistic virtual pooches we’ve ever seen. The ability to better model faces and manage the huge amounts of data from more detailed capture systems means performances can be recreated in incredible details which leads us to…

    9. Better virtual actors: This is a tech demo, not a game, but it’s a taster of what Quantic Dream and David Cage have in store for PlayStation 4 – namely, incredibly realistic-looking virtual actors. Cage thinks photorealism is the key to emotional storytelling in games. Whether or not you agree with this, he’s getting pretty damn close to crossing the uncanny valley. The ability to both capture actors and recreate them will look incredible on PS4.

I can't wait for things like Drive Club, Elder Scrolls online, and Second Son.
But yes, these HUGE multiplayers will be sick, along with smarter AI's. There's nothing I hate more than a game that doesn't challenge me.
