When it comes to box art, the choosen cover car for both Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport must be a difficult decision. After all, this is the car that will inevitibly be associated with the game and fondly looked back on as a timestamp of automotive achievement.

The release of Gran Turismo 4 in 2004, for example, coincided with the launch of the Ford GT, Ford's modern homage to the GT40 which was commemorated as GT4's cover car. It was a similar story with the Mercedes SLS, the gull-winged successor to the timeless Mercedes SL which found itself stamped on GT5's cover to celebrate its release.

GT's neighbouring rival Forza Motorsport adopted a similar strategy, with Forza 3's Audi R8 and Forza 4's Ferrari F458 Italia covers both signifying significant supercars of the era.

Forza Motorsport 5 will be repeating the trend with the recently-revealed artwork depicting the McLaren P1, the savage successor to the McLaren F1 that will undoubtedly receive extra publicity for its starring role in the Forza franchise.

As for Gran Turismo 6, the box art has been revealed in the midst of Gamescom confirming the Chevrolet Corvette C7 as GT6's cover car star, which was previously released as free DLC to coincide with its real-life unveil.

In addition, the box art for the Anniversary Edition has also been revealed, sporting a Renault Sport Megane Trophy V6 on the cover which will be bundled as as part of 25 additional cars exclusive to the 15th Anniversary Edition with special liveries and performance upgrades:
