    Default [tut]Creating your first java program

    The first thing you have to when creating a java program is download eclipse juno which can be found here << click here :P
    once downloaded you are going to want to extract the file and place it at your desktop. After you have done that you have to open the eclipse juno application and select a workspace.

    Once the workplace is selected proceed to clicking file>new>Java Project and name it hello world
    after you have made a new Java project you will notice something that looks like this

    My program name is a little different because that is something i'm working on
    Now right click the new file and do new>class and then click on that new file you created and name the class HelloWorld
    if the file doesn't show in that area just drop down your program name and then drop down src and you should see it
    Now click on the new class and you will notice the following

    public class hello world {

    now go to the end of that and press enter and type the following under it
    public static void main(String [] args){
    press enter and then your body will be made. The body is what is stored inside the two curly brackets you see
    now that you have started the first part of the hello world program you now have to type the following
    System.out.println("hello world!");
    println prints what is stored in the parenthesis and make sure you add the semi colon at the end
    }
    press enter and a new

    Now we will take a look at some of the words we used
    public means that the client using the program has access to the method
    make sure to alway know weather to use a capital or a lower case because that could create problems with your program.

    we also used void, void is in place of the return type we could have used.
    public means that the client viewing has access to the method used
    we have to type public static void main(String [] args){
    before you do anything which i will explain when i make the next tutorial

    Not exactly. Public means that other methods/classes have access to the method/class in question.

    Good job though. If you're just learning Java, making tutorials will help you grasp it better. That's what I did a few years ago when learning Obj-C.

    Few tips. The first being, if you're using Eclipse, you can just type Sys.o then press CTRL and it will finish System.out.println(""); for you.
    Also, try and use [ code] tags next time. I know MyBB has PHP Code tags which allow Syntax highlighting, but I'm not sure about vB.
