# Thread: Infinity - Something I Ponder Upon

1. ## Infinity - Something I Ponder Upon

We all here the term infinity at one point or another; we all here is used as a number also. It's used in interval notation for things like 8 ≤ x which in interval notation looks like [8, ∞). Which means x could be an infinite number of possibilities.
Infinity also applies to decimals. Let's use 0 < 1.
Of course you can add decimals to 0.
0.999
0.00000000000009
0.123456789101112131415

and so on. There's no end, but there is an end.
Infinity means no end, but there's an end. Hence the reason we more numbers than just 0.

So, to sum it up with a question for you to think about.
Infinity (∞) if infinite, but yet has an end.

This is something I wrote cause it's something I thought about, and it's interesting to think about.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. You can always add another digit. Numbers have no cap.

3. there is no end.
there are an infinite amount of numbers, and an infinite amount of numbers between those numbers, and an infinite amount of numbers between THOSE numbers, and so on.

Like demon said. There's no end between numbers or the list of numbers.
But obviously if the number continues from 0 to 1 there is an end, but there's not.

True yes. But logically there is an end since the number continues from 0 to 1.
But at the same time. There isn't. Hm.
It's weird to think about, like I said.

What are you smoking? There is no end. You can always add another digit. Before or after the decimal, it doesn't matter. Numbers are infinite, end of story.

Haha you're missing what I'm saying bud.
I'm saying numbers are infinite. But logically. You think the number/decimals of 0 would have an end because it moves to 1 at a point. But 0 has no end. Neither does 1 or any other number.

7. You've made this thread trying too hard to sound intelligent. The thread title is just wrong, in every way. It haunts me. Its an abomination to the English language.

9. Wrong or not demon, it's still something interesting to think about and causes a pretty good discussion

And yes Oz, it's always a conspiracy

10. There is a paradox called Zeno's paradox with several ways to explain it. Infinity says that there are an infinite decimals between 0-1, meaning that since there are an infinite amount of decimals, you cant really get one. But we do get one. Another way to think about it is if you hold your hands apart, and move your left hand so its touching your right hand. Technically every 'insert # here' seconds your halving the distance between your hands, so you are always halving the distance, meaning your hand technically do not touch. But they do. There is a great numberphile video explaining it in a 3rd way too.
