Default [Need Help] Gaming On PC

So i'm thinking about using my computer to play games on. I really want to play MW2 so I can mod it. So what's the deal with steam, do you download it? Do you have to buy it online? Is it free? Also, if I want to get MW2, do I have to buy the disc for PC to play it or download it + where and how much are/can I get a PC controller? Thanks

Pc controllers vary. Go look on best buy's website for controllers. There's quite a few they have.

I believe you download steam. Which when you purchase a game, you download it to your hard drive and then you can play it. I don't use steam, so I don't know much. (When I gets new computer, I might start using it).

Steam is free. But the games aren't (duh)
Although some games on steam are fairly cheap.
You don't need to buy the disks to play the games. You can buy it off stream and download it.
You can use your xbox/playstation controllers on your computer so you don't need a "PC controller".
Before you buy anything I would suggest you check if you can run it

I don't think Xbox 360 wireless controllers work. I think you have to buy a windows compatiable version.

I tried using my 360 controller once, and it didn't work. If it is poasible, information can come in handy!

But yeah. Basically what Ricky said.

I would recommend trying to get used to the mouse and keyboard instead of getting a controller. People on CoD especially who are good with mouse and keyboard controls will just completely fuck you over.

You should post your specs but if it's a modern computer, it shouldn't have a problem I have a HP Pavilion 15 and it plays Skyrim, Borderlands 2, and a bunch of other games at medium to High Settings with no lag and if you wanna know the specs just ask me.

Here we go! Let's start from Steam. Steam is a free application used to manage your games and purchase them. There's free games on Steam (i.e. TF2, Planetside 2, Dota 2, APB, DCUO, and much more) but there's a lot of paid games. Steam eliminates the need for any discs, all you need is internet! Probably the best to have decent speed also. I hope that answers your question for that.

Using an Xbox 360 controller is not hard. You just need the drivers.
    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en...wnloads#gaming
    There's the drivers page.

If you notice there's wireless and wired drivers. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!
When it comes to the computer you have two choices, wired and wireless.
Wired - The controller is built with the wires. Requires a direct connection, no battery, all hardware. No wireless capability.
Wireless - The opposite of above.
Here's the common misconception of the wireless. You know the plug and play kits? The rechargeable battery ones? THOSE DO NOT WORK FOR THE COMPUTER! Yes, they'll charge the battery, but that's it. It transfers power, ONLY POWER. Not data.
To use a wireless controller on the PC, you need this...

When it comes to PC gaming, there's a lot of specs you can look at.
What is your price range? Desktop or laptop? One screen or two(or however many)? Pre built, custom built, or are you building yourself?
Here's 2 places I would go for PCs.
    http://ironsidecomputers.com/
    http://www.ibuypower.com/

There's a couple more but I can not remember them right now.
    Any questions?
