[Suggestion] Programmer Group?
The other night I remember the mention of a programming group and it seemed to spark up a conversation. Well, the conversation seemed to die with the admins in the chat saying to move it to staff Xat; I don't expect it to happen immediately but I figured I would go ahead and make a real suggestion.
So I suggest that we have a programmer group. I know we have a coder group but that apparently doesn't cover programming for things like PC and all that. So why not have a group for it? I know I would love to apply for that group, I also know Jew would love this idea too. Lol.
So figured I would go ahead and post this suggestion and get everyone's opinion. So what does everyone else think?

Last I heard we were trying to limit the amount of user groups on the forum. I have no idea right now though.

0z said it'll never happen a while ago when I talked to him, but I support it too.

What would you discuss in the programming forum? There would only be like 4 people in the usergroup.

We'd contribute projects and tutorials to the site, as well as share programming tips. Think GA, but programmers. There are more than 4 programmers, and having a group dedicated would want to make more people learn.

We are making changes to some forums soon, adding a few and removing some. If we get some removed and make some space I would consider this.
It couldn't hurt to try, if it ends up being a dud we will remove it.

And Elli, who said anything about a section specified to the group? That would matter as much. It's being recognized as a programmer. Just like you get recognized for your skills as a gfx artist with the GA tag and coding with the coder tag.
And as Sky said, it would inspire some people to become more active and post more to become one because now they have something to work for or it would inspire people to learn and having "Programmer" as a tag a goal.

I think it is a good idea, but everything has its cons. I see it ending up like the coder's usergroup in the future. I think it would be a great success in the beginning, but would die out after a couple of months. And my other issue is the standards for becoming a programmer? I'm sure Jew could come up with some good standards, but I'm sure he doesn't know every language, and somebody may apply with one of those abstract languages. Then there is the issue with credit stealing. I don't think it's very hard to credit steal with programming, and I'm not really talking about copy and paste, I'm talking about using somebody else's work and modifying it. I'm sure it will all get figured out, but there are some things that need to be thought about. After all, I would support the usergroup.

I'm for this idea, I myself am trying to learn code actually.
