Announced earlier this week, Microsoft is now accepting game content to be purchased with the popular Cryptocurrency, bitcoin. According to an official statement by Microsoft, users now have the ability to add the bitcoins straight to your account. Users now have the ability to purchase games, apps, and music along with several other items available on the market place. Bitcoins will also be available on Windows Phone stores.
In a brief statement from the Microsoft VP of Universal's Eric Lockard explained further more on their decision. Microsoft said that currently the new payment option is only available for U.S. customers only, and only is to be used for digital items. Users can only add $1000 USD to their account at any time. As expected, all payments complete are completely ineligible for refunds.
In February earlier this year, Microsoft launched a massive update on their search engine Bing, which allowed users to generate bitcoin price conversations." Recently, co-founder and technology adviser, Bill Gates stated in a "Ask Me Anything" on Reddit, that his nonprofit organization was interested in digital payments. Obviously the online currency has boosted in popularity throughout the past two years, and it is not a very big surprise that Microsoft has added Bitcoins has a payment option.
Microsft CEO Satya Nadella has prepared his team for a long year in 2015. The BitPay commercial officer Sonny Singh has embraced Microsoft's decision on adding Bitcoins has a payment method. Singh said that there is a possibility that Microsoft will be supporting future technology. During the interview with Singh, he suggested that Microsoft will not be turning around on bitcoin support, and that they plan on expanding the idea. "They already have a global plan rolled out for us," Singh said. "They've already thought four steps ahead of this whole rollout, so they are very innovative, very aggressive and very strategic in how they work." He also indicated that full Bitcoin support will be added by Christmas. Singh also said to officials that "Microsoft has a long-term vision for bitcoin, BitPay and the blockchain. Starting with digital goods in the US is the logical first step, however, they want to expand to Europe and globally and add support for other products as part of that rollout."
From the information given by Microsoft officials, it seems as though Microsoft is very serious on expanding purchases able to be made with Bitcoins. We can expect to see many Microsoft products able to be purchased with Bitcoins. Hopefully, this will give people more of a reason to begin working with Bitcoins. What are your opinion on Microsoft allowing the ability for purchases able to made with Bitcoins? I believe that it will be useful for many people.
