The fear of getting made fun of for not knowing.
An IRL friend of mine is trying to learn programming. I invited him to a few pounds I frequent, and he was scared to ask questions for the fear of being mocked for not knowing. This kind of hit home, since I realize that I've definitely been one to point fun at people for not knowing X or Y before.
That being said, I want to make some sort of resource where people can ask whatever they want, without the fear of being mocked, while keeping it a social environment.

i'm guessing anonymity is key. for me the main reason why i didn't ask questions was due to the fact that people would tag a lable to my face that said "moron"

Asking question is a hard thing to do especially when you are new to a subject, one important thing is that the questions should be answered by somewhat professionals.

I used to ask questions in IRC but stopped when I realized how little I knew and how dumb I looked. But that just drove me to put more time into projects.
I think the only problem with this idea is that some people take places to ask questions and turn them into places to be spoon-fed everything. Stack Overflow's good for asking questions though.

Not a bad idea. Maybe a reddit-like site? I think I'd stick to StackOverflow, though.

I remember having that fear in math class. So I would just not ask anything...

Since it's going to start small you could always filter words too.
